Southwestern MN Region Profile

Amazing fishing is to be found in the shallow prairie lakes of Southwestern, MN.

According to Gary Holmgren, here are his top lakes for the area:

Okabena Lake - Worthington MN
Okabena lake covers 785 acres and has a shoreline length of five miles. The lake is located within Worthington city limits, and the majority of the surrounding shoreline is developed.

Loon Lake - Jackson MN
Loon Lake is a 700 acre lake near the Iowa border. The lake has a maximum depth of about seven feet and is connected to Big Spirit Lake in Iowa.

West Graham - Kinbrae MN
Good for walleyes.

East Graham - Kinbrae MN
Good for Northerns.

Double Lake - Storden MN
Double Lake consists of two basins of similar size that are intermittently connected by a six - foot culvert. The deepest spot in this 246 acre lake is approximately nine feet. 

Lake Benton - Lake Benton MN
Lake Benton, which covers 2,857 acres, is one of the largest lakes in the area.  The lake has a shoreline length of 18.1 miles and a maximum depth of nine feet. Further, over a 100 cabins, lake homes, and cottages are  located along the south shore border of Lake Benton.

Lake Shetek - Currie MN
Covering 3,808 acres, Lake Shetek is the largest lake in southwest Minnesota. The lake has a shoreline length of 31.7 miles and a maximum depth of 10 feet.

Talcot Lake - Dundee MN
Talcot Lake is part of a state - owned wild life refuge and management area. The lake covers 678 acres and is approximately two miles long.

Round Lake - Round Lake MN
Round Lake is a shallow prairie lake located 2.5 miles northeast of the city of Round Lake.

In the Mankato/New Ulm areas, try German Lake, Clear Lake, or Lake Hanska.
