With over 20,000 acres of water to enjoy, there is no end to the year-round funin Curtis Michigan. Along with the lake complex, Curtis also has MilakokiaLake, Lake Ann Louise, Millecoquins Lake, the Manistique River (that runsthrough the Seney Wildlife Refuge), The Fox River, the historic Two HeartedRiver (made famous by Hemingway), and the Tahquamenon River. This river leadsto the famous Tahquamenon Falls, which are the largest waterfalls east of theMississippi.
The Lakes provide a variety of cool water fish whichinclude: Muskie up to 40 lbs., Northern Pike, Walleye, Large and Small mouthBass, Perch, Bluegill, Sunfish, Rock Bass, and Bullheads. The rivers andstreams provide Brook, Brown, Rainbow, and Steelhead Trout, plus great smeltruns in the spring.
Ice forms in early December and provides a greatsource for cold weather sports activities from late December until spring breakin mid April. The last Saturday in April brings the opening of Trout season andthe Smelt runs.
Most of the waters are 30 ft. or less, sotemperatures warm early and are very pleasant for swimming, water skiing andother activities. Boats, motors, jet skis, pontoon and paddleboats are the mostpopular mode of transportation in our area!
Great annual events abound in Curtis Michigan! Families live in Curtis Michigan for the variety of activities thatnature and area businesses have to offer! Over 16,000 visitors gather for the "Biggest Little Town Parade inMichigan" IndependenceDay Celebration and fireworks each 4th ofJuly. The annually Art on the Lake is held on the Saturday of Labor DayWeekend. Residents can participateor enjoy music, art, photography, silent auctions, food and more! The annualWine and Cheese tasting fundraiser is held in July – great fun andentertainment for those over 18yrs of age. Oktoberfest is an all day event witha beer tent, German inspired food and entertainment. The Curtis Winter Carnivalhas a chili Cook-off Fish Coop, food booths, ice golf, fireworks, and muchmore. Live in a community thatkeeps busy by the lake!
